This is the 1990 MLT textbook written by Prof. Liim for use in Thaepengkerng Presbytarian Church. All texts were typewrit-
ten by the author on an Apple-II computer. Alphabetical letters and symbols for original MLT sentences were adopted in accordance to its keyboard.
The Presbyterian Church at that time uses a Bible of Amoy dialect, which is typeset with the Church Romanized Writing (CRW) of 1930's. Srudents in the class were quite familiar with this bible and the letter uses therein.
As the IBM computer began to substitute Apple-II in 1996, the following letter changes were obliged for the typing on the keyboard of that computer.
(1) Now, the German phonetic letter [
]
that
was used before in correspondant to CRW's solitary "o" is abandoned.
Only in case that this sound of Amoy dialect is to be noticed, an underline
is written on the printed "o" to make it "o".
(2) The synbol ( + ) corres-
ponding to CRW's double hyphen "--" is now somewhat uneasy to type on the IBM keyboard, so it is replaced with the symbolic letter of "^" which is similarly a letter of two strokes and also denotes the meaning of a strong preceding word combined with a weakened latter word, a special combination in Taiwanese language.
Here shown is the original copy of the book of 1990. In English part of Chapters 9, 10, and 11, a liaison symbol (<) is temporarily introduced. This is a temporary measure and will never to be used in MLT sentences.

本書是林繼雄教授在1990年時為台南太平境長老教會的台語文研討會所寫的首篇課本。 全篇課本使用當時的Apple-II家用電腦,自己打字來交印。 就因為如此, 現代文的文字記號是依照這個電腦的鍵盤上文字來設定的。 .

當時的台灣長老教會普遍使用1930年代的廈門音來排版的聖經。研討會參與者均對該聖經及其中的"教會羅馬字白話文(教羅)"很熟悉。
當1996年前後,IBM電腦取代了Apple-II電腦之後,
,乃為打字著作的方便, 做了下列的用字更改:

對應"教羅"中單獨 "o" 字的德語音標字

在現代文書中受到廢棄, 而在特別強調該廈門音時,
就在印好的"o"字上加寫下線而為"o"。

(2) 對應"教羅"中的雙連號(--)的強辭記號(+), 因為IBM鍵盤上不能一次打出,
就改用記號字(^)。 這個記號字,同為二劃的字型, 且指示著"先行強辭連後接弱辭"的含義,
這是台文中特有的連符。

英文解釋部份的第9,10,11章, 臨時導入了要轉調的連音記號(<)。○o是為教導台語說話習慣的臨時記號,
並不用在任何的台語現代文書中。
